Goldens are usually so docile that one who seems this protective is probably scared of you - worried you might attack him! "AAAAAGHHH!", he said, "there's a woman from Florida and she's after me. heeeellllp!"

Actually, for all the reputation Goldens have of being docile, not all are so. Even the vets around here (France) confirm that. For a good solid temperment I'd have a Labrador anyday. The majority of Goldens tho are sweet and loving - and addicted to stealing and eating Kleenex and loo rolls!
I guess that the lifted left front leg indicates something? My previous neighbours used to have one like this. Have hardly seen a friendlier dog, but so friendly that you needed a shower after meeting him.
